Halo Reach – Stronger, Harder, Faster

Better game play, a darker story, and no more loose ends. Halo gets a 9 out of 10

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

image "Halo Reach,”  the fourth in the popular series that pits the player against murderous aliens in a variety of settings, is available now in stores across the United States.

Halo has sold more than 34 million copies in the nine years of its life — boosting the popularity of Microsoft's Xbox console — helping the world's largest software company grab a large slice of the $20 billion U.S. video game business.

The new "Halo: Reach," technically a prequel to the main Halo narrative, has better graphics, more complex fighting scenarios and new ways of playing with others online, which analysts say could bring some excitement back to the slack video game business.

Available now from $59.99

Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty Review

image StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty brings players back to the sci-fi world they've been pining over for more than a decade, and it doesn't disappoint.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty ($59.99 list) needs little introduction, as it's one of the most highly anticipated video game sequels of all time. Now that it's hit retail shelves, fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as there are no more pushbacks and murky, hinted-at release dates; the second part of the epic real-time strategy trilogy (RTS) is here.

Mass Effect 2: Overlord Review

I hope you've hung onto your copy of Mass Effect 2. After a series of middle of the road downloadable add-ons, BioWare has finally hit on something that is sure to please most everybody. Like many downloads priced at 560 Microsoft points, Overlord a bit short. Don't let that deter you, though. This is one of the best series of missions that the franchise has yet seen…

Is it just me or is this getting completely out of hand…

When we were kids we had Nerf footballs, and basketballs. Today I discovered what today's youth have. Nerf assault weapons.

The Nerf Stampede is a fully automatic, battery-powered dart assault rifle. The new rifle will come with three new, 18-shot extended magazines, offering much more firepower than the standard 6-shot magazines. And I thought my Nerf football with the auto-spiraling grip was cool back in the day.

Freebie: Portal

Portal is free until May 24th. No strings attached

downloadIcon  Well, technically speaking, there are some strings attached. Fortunately, they're entirely decorative. We just like the way they look, swaying in the gentle breeze created by a million people simultaneously fainting from shock at the news that Portal is free. Now you have no reason not to try Portal.

"I have a reason," some of you are probably typing into an angry email. "You see, sir, I own a Mac."

Well guess what: For the first time ever, Portal is also available for the Mac.

"Capital news! But the excellent puzzle adventure Portal won over 40 Game of the Year awards; Surely it must cost at least five or six hundred dollars."

You'd think that, especially since it actually won over 70 Game of the Year Awards. But, like we keep saying, Portal is free. Free on the Mac. Free on the PC. But only until May 24th. So you only have a few days to decide if your free copy of Portal is worth the price we're currently charging - which is you ever-so-slightly moving your index finger just barely enough to click the big green button right there to the right or click right here.
